Canada Socks Excellent Adventure
Portland, Maine
Friday, May 25, 2007
I chose Canada Sock as the project that would come along with us. I am knitting the Canada Socks with the KOTR - KAL. I had started the socks on May 10, 2007 but on May 16, 2007 I ripped them back to the first chart and began again. The sock was too thick and contained too may repeats. I only did one repeat of the pattern. These socks are taller than I would usually wear but will be very warm come fall and winter.
Specifics:
Yarn: Regia Silk, color 070-Moss and color 032-burgandy and a small amount of rust colored wool. Yarn was purchased at the Custom Shop in Kennebunk, Maine.
Needles: Clover bamboo size 0, size 1 for colorwork
Changes: Only one pattern repeat, heel, toe.
Canada Sock arrive in Maine on Tuesday, May 21, 2007. One sock was finished and the second sock had all color patterns finished. At first the sock was happy to be knit in the house of my mother, Memere. I think the fact that she is French-Canadian helped the sock along.
Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday evenings were spent knitting on Canada Sock and watching the Red Sox games, Thursday was a repeat of a Red Sox-Yankee game.
On Friday Canada Sock decides it wants to go out. Off to Portland we went. We found parking and the first stop was Seaport Yarn. Then to Becky's for lunch. We rode our bikes over to South Portland to see the famous Bug Light and Spring Point Light.
Canada Sock had fun at Longfellow's House.

The temp was high and we decided to go to a local Old Port coffee shop for some iced coffee.
The bathroom wall reads
It was a long day and Canada Sock was getting tired. Rangers/Red Sox game delayed. Knitted into the wee hours of the morning and finished the second sock Saturday morning.Monday, May 14, 2007
Canada Socks and Butterfly Super 10 Cotton Socks
I was looking for something different, pretty and fast. These are made with 48 stitches and size 2 LM ebony needles. The yarn is listed as a dk. A little rough on the hands although I have knit with wools that were worse. They seem thick and will hopefully make a nice house sock for an ill friend. Edit 5/27/2007 -My SIL Nancy loves her socks. She is in and out of the Cancer Center for Chemo, Radiation and blood transfusions, they will come in handy. They are knit with Butterfly Super 10 yarn in color 2918 - Jazz Nights.
Here is the start of the KOTR April/May KAL, Canada socks. I am using Regia Silk in Moss and Burgandy and a little bit of a left over wool in a rust color. They are worked with size 0 bamboo needles. This colorwork section is very time consuming, I have done 16 rows of the 29 row pattern. After the color panel it is basically a stockinette stitch with a clock panel down each side to the toe.
5/17/2007 Edit on Canada Sock. This sock was ripped back to the ribbing. The sock is very thick and the colorwork made it so thick that I had trouble getting it over my heel. I am almost done sock number one. Just the foot to go. With changes I am not sure I will have enough of the moss color, the toe may be burgandy.

Spidey and Yarn
Went to NYC to see Spiderman 3. It was amazing to see a movie in the city it was filmed. A couple of times Spidey came by the theatre we were at. Dinner at Carmine's.
Found a new place to shop online. I was visiting http://stilaholicnartianknits.blogspot.com/ and noticed the link to http://www.oneplanetyarnandfiber.com/. I purchased the Marion sock yarn and the Yarn Botanika was an oops. These yarns are both beautiful and the online store is great. I ordered the yarn on Wednseday evening and received it Friday morning. Slight problem was solved immediately by Lis, so Lis gets an A+ for customer service. The Rowan Soft Sea Wool in pink came from Webs http://yarn.com/webs/0/0/0/0-1001-1294-1323/0/0/3646/ this is for the Spiral Boot Socks from Interweave Knits Summer 2007. The blue is Colinette JitterBug, Damson. I bought the JitterBug at Tangled Yarn in Bethlehem, PA - no web site. Last one in the picture is Butterfly Cotton purchased at Kraemer Textiles in Nazareth, PA http://www.kraemeryarnshop.com/.
