It Is Very Hard To Knit In Hot Weather

is the second shawl in a series of three shawls on the theme of the three Norns (Urðr, Verðandi and Skuld) in Norse mythology. I am using Trekking Hand Art in the Irland color and size 5 needles.

Knitting But Not Enough

My class is keeping me very busy. Yes I only have one class but it is Cell Biology, and lets just say it is difficult for me. I have been buying yarn though and here are the latest additions. They are all from "The Sanguine Gryphon". The 2 blue ones are Bugga, Blue Lobster, the brown is Bugga, Calico Pennant Dragonfly. The litte mini skein is Gaia Lace and It came with the Calico Painted Dragonfly. I have no idea what the color is but it is beautiful and I want more.

Spring/Winter semester is over, Summer Classes have started.

I have never felt any hand knit item as soft as this shawl. When I finished knitting this was just a ball of fluff but after blocking it opened up beautifully.

Although this is a small shawl it is very soft and oh so colorful.

I am still working on my k1 p1 socks. Just for fun I cast on this smoke ring. The pattern is very fun and the yarn is a joy to work with. More when finished.

Christmas Vacation

I made it through the Fall semester. I took 4 classes. I loved them all and am looking forward to the Sprin semester, I am taking 5 classes. So while I have four weeks off in between I am Knitting.

How crazy was I to use those darn square needles again. I wanted to make this shawl and it calls for size 3 and that is what I have. This knit up to a very light weight scarf. I love it.

"It's Always A Sunny Day" Multnomah

Pattern: Multnomah

You may remember this started out as the Swallowtail Shawl.

First off the needles. I used Kollage Yarns, Square Circular Knitting Needles. My husband bought these for me for 2008 Christmas gift. This was sthe first time I used them. They claim the “won’t kink, kurl, or knot”, they do. Also the stitches have a difficult time going over the join. One of the tips all of the finish wore off and left it rough feeling, the other tip is fine.

Now for the yarn. I LOVE the color. That being said, I am not sure if it was the yarn/needle combination or what but the splitting was unreal. Every row I had to fix a couple of stitches.

When blocked out the scarf measured 43.5” by 17”. A little smaller than the patter calls for. I followed the pattern exactly except that I completed 13 repeats of the Feather and Fan border.

I have so much homework that I just could not pay attention to the charts in the projects I have going. The Every Day Wrap is not too hard but is a worsted weight yarn and seems to have a lot of dust and loose fibers and I prefer to work on this outside. This scarf is fun and easy, unlike homework. I am using Lanas Puras, Melosa in Maple Cream. Size 8 needle. More later back to homework, math test today.

Labor Day Weekend WIP's

July Is Gone August Is Here

Where has the time gone? I sure as heck do not know. These are the "Guitar Man" socks. I knit them for my guitar playing husband.I followed the pattern exactly - 72 stitches on size 1 double point needles. The yarn is "Meilenweit, Mega Boot Stretch" color 713. I like them, the pattern was fun, and my husband likes them.

Then more rainy weather set in and I read a couple of books, or should I say that I napped alot. Then I remembered that I still had alot of fabric in a tote in the garage and decided to make some bags. These are made from "Simplicity" pattern 2830. I made another larger (the one on top) bag but gifted it to my Aunt for her birthday. The bags were fun and believe it or not quite easy. I use the smaller bag (carrots) for my knitting. I can fit a pair of socks that I am working on, the pattern, lip balm, extra skein of yarn , antibacterial wipes, and my wallet in the bag. There are also pockets of the outside for other things collected along the way.These are works in progress. A couple pair of "Glorious Gloves", the black ones are knit with "Hempathy" and the green ones are knit with "SoxxAppeal". I am having finger anxiety. Maybe the next rainy day will help.

Took a quick trip to Maine the end of July. My Mother was quite ill and needed surgery. She had a pacemaker installed at Maine Medical. A wonderful hospital with a lovely nursing staff. My husband and I had our birthday dinner at "DiMillo's", we both had the Seafood Scampi and I am happy to report that it was a dinner I will remember always. Delicious! I am happy to say that my Mother will be going home from the rehab center on Friday 8/7. God Blesss Her, 88 years old and just as stubborn as ever.

I'm Back

It has been awhile. In February I started a training program at the local Community College. It pretty much sucked the life out of me I attended school M-F from 8-3. Three of the days were spent learning Microsoft Office Suite 2007 and the other two days were spent learning QuickBooks Pro 2007. The classes were fun. I met new people, no knitters. I did some knitting as you will see but most of the time I spent learning and trying to get my knee healthy. As of this writing I still do not have a knee I can depend on. I do still have hope for this knee and will continue with the healing. I then took a 5 week Customer Service and Sales training course. I still need to take the test for this, I think it is July 20, 2009. The garden is also doing well. We have been eating peas for quite some time. The first cucumber was picked yesterday and the softneck garlic was picked today.

There are two pair of socks here, both from the one skein. The taller pair are womens. The pattern is knit one and purl one all the way down tothe toe. The shorter pair, yes there are two socks on the one foot, are a men's shortie sock. My husband like to wear them with sandles in cooler weather.

These socks were fun to knit. Lace and cables all mixed up and tippy. The mohair in the yarn made it a little itch to knit with but feels fine on the foot. The silk makes the socks a little heavy but soft and warm.

I have another pair of socks (Guitar Man Socks) on the needles and I am working on a couple pairs of "Glorious Gloves". I will return soon.

I Crochet

This is the "Mile A Minute" afghan leaflet. I had started an afghan from this leaflet many years ago and just came upon it in the attic. I need a couple of skeins of Red Heart Super Saver in Aran to finish it and have not come across that color so I decided to use the leftover greens I had from afghan gifts at Christmas and some Soft White I had left over. The afghan I made is the one on the lower right #5. The name is "Morning Sunrise". Unless you are standing in a spruce forest with snow on the ground and tree branches mine does not look much like a morning sunrise, but I like it. The directions called for an I hook. I used a K hook. Not such a good picture but it is what I have.

Matching bootie slippers knit with leftover yarn. Dublin Bay Socks. I have wanted to knit these for a while. i used Farmhouse Yarn, Fannie's Fingering, color Purple Rainbow. I followed the pattern and used a size 0 needle. The foot is knit in stockinette stitch, no yo's. I love them. They fit better than any other socks I have knit.

It's All About the HandsThe above mittens were knit with Cascade 220. I purchased the 220 from "The loopy Ewe". They have just about every color in stock.

The two pair on the top are ladies. Knit on a size 4 double points with 40 stitches.

The three pair in the bottom row are men's. Knit on size 5 double points with 44 stitches.

Below are fingerless mitts.

The pair on top are "Maine Morning Mitts", from the "Knitters Book of Yarn" by Clara Parks. Knit with leftover Malabrigo from the Christmas lace scarf. I used size 5 double points. These are a spare gift, just in case.

The pair in the bottom are "Dashing". I used Peace Fleece I had left over from the "Peace Fleece Sweater". The color is Siberian Midnight. I used a size 4 double point. The blue tags are so the wearer can tell which is for the right or left hand. Another spare gift.

Kitties Do Not Like Cold, Non-Sunshine Days

It has been a long time since my last post. I have been busy knitting, just not posting. I read other blogs but have not left any comments. I am still mending from my surgery of June 25th. My knee is not cooperating. I have had artificial cartilage injected into this knee. I still can not bear weight which means I can not go up or down stairs. The NYC subway system is not a delight as they are not handicap friendly. I am practicing pain management without the use of drugs. What joy that brings!

This pair of socks was very fun to knit. The 24 row pattern kept things interesting. I started knitting the size small on 60 stitches. After turning the heel I realized it would not fit. Ripped back and made the large size with 70 stitches. Still very snug. Below you can see the difference between the 60 and 70 stitches. These socks required concentration and were very time consuming. Cast on July 3, 2008, finished July 17, 2008.

The Solstice Slip

The pattern was the 2007 RSC June pattern. On blockers, on feet, on the flowers, this is a great sock. The color says summer and so does the pattern .

This is sock #1 for SOS08. I chose this sock for it's simplicity. I had surgery planned for June 25th and I had to choose a pattern I would be able to knit while recovering from the surgery. You know knit while taking Vicodin. This was a great choice and a perfect addition to my sock collection. The yarn is so very soft but had an quite a few knots in it. As it is not self striping this was not a major isssue.

Where Has June Got To

This is the new garden enclosure. A gift from the boy child for Mothers' and Fathers' Day. One might think it was errected to keep out wildlife. Nope. The cat. Our cat likes to dig big holes. No duty just big holes. And where better than in just dug soil.

I purchased all of my seeds from "Seeds of Choice" this year. Everything is growing as I write this but it has been a slow start. The "Cherry Belle" raddishes and the "Snow Peas" are the only offerings, so far.

Above are "Pink Blossonms" socks. A pattern I found on Ravelry. Not sure if the dirrections are still secret or not so I will just leave it at that. I used Jaeger, Sienna, a 100% cotton fingering yarn, in the Lobelia color. Needle size 0 with 72 stitches. Very nice sock to wear with my teva's.

Here is the next batch of aprons. They are all 100% cotton and so very fun to make.

The summer has not been all fun and games. I have had 3 "Synvisc" shots in my right knee. This is supposed to relieve the pain caused by arthritis. I also just last week had knee surgery in the left knee. I have pretty much been in a vicodin haze since surgery but improving daily.
Before surgery I got to spend 4 days down on the Jersey Shore with my husband, his family, and our children.

I am presently working on a pair of "The Solstice Slip" socks for SoS08. I should be done tomorrow.

I saw this on ravelry and had to make one for my Mother's upcoming 87th birthday. I usually make dishcloths for her but this is wonderful. I will also make dishclothes.

These were fun to knit. On a blocker they look to size. Off the blocker they look to fit a 3 year old. Knit to pattern down to the toe, then just a plain toe.
I have been reading. I still have the third book to finish. Peter Jackson, who directed the movie version is worknig on the hobbit. Hoping they would show all 3 movies before The Hobbit comes out. By the way these are long books and I have to keep checking the maps to see where every one is. Not the same as the movie, I guess they tried to make the movie more exciting; the book is more exciting. I used a McCalls pattern to make this knitting bag. I was not planning on it being so big. Well now I am adapting the bag to fit my needs. The pocket on the side fits a standard store bought water bottle, I use a nalgene. The pocket needs to be bigger. There a a couple other things that need fixing. Stay tuned for the new and improved bag.

Slots for long and short needles. Not sure why you might want to carry all these needlse.

Nice zipper pocket. I need to work on my zipper technique. My sewing machine is from 1971. I do not have a zipper foot. Nor does it make button holes.

I made this apron for my Mother. She is have surgery tomorrow for a lymph node tumor. Notice I do not imply a negative tone here. I am driving to Maine this afternoon to give her a ride to the hospital for the procedure. Mom has macular and needs these bright colors.

It is almost time for me to leave on my journey to Maine. A 7 hour drive for me. I like to stop and get coffee and go to the ladies room more than most. My daughter will join me on this trip. Drive up today, surgery Thursday, drive home Friday. The reason the trip is so quick. Our local coffee shop closed March 29th. Every Friday night there was live music and knitting. Wednesday afternoon was the official knitting group time but we knit on Friday night also. This Friday it is my turn to host and I will be bring back goodies from Maine for the event. Heads - Shortie Socks - Aprons My Son works retail. When he went to work last Thursday, March 13th these beautiful heads were in the garbage. Being the thoughful person he is they were rescued and brought home to live with us. Guess I will need to knit more hats.

These socks were knit from left over yarn from 2 different pair of socks. The yarn is OnLine Summer Color, colors 787 & 788. I used the Fiber Trends - "Toe Jazz" pattern but did not make the toe.

Used the left overs from 3 different pair here.

This Apron was found all cut up along with the apron below up in the attic (w/the unfinished afghans). Just needed to be sewed. When were sunflowers popular. I think I cut this out in 1995. Yikes!

The reason I went looking for the apron pattern was to make this apron. It is a birthday (belated) gift for my Aunt Gaby. I bought the cloth December 2006 at the "Portsmouth Fabric Company"112 Penhallow Street, Portsmouth, NH. It was supposed to be a 2007 b-day gift. Better this year with Easter so close.

Colors are right on here.

I am leaving on Wednesday to deliver the gift to my Aunt in Sanford, Maine.

Husband and I are stopping in Boston for 2 nights with the "Pogues". Something we started in 2006 - our 25th anniversary. Luckily the Pogues have played 3 years in a row. 26th anniversary and now 27th anniversary.

A quick and fun knit.

I was looking through the books that I have on Sunday. I found this Bernat Handicrafter, Book No 46. The copyright date is 1955. There are a few fun knits in here. I picked this:

Needle: Size 5

This odd shaped hat was made with short rows. I completed this on Sunday evening while watching television. My daughter liked the idea of this hat thing as it will not give one hat head.

I am still knitting away on "Twinings" I have completed the 16 row pattern 4 times, 8 inches. This is a real fun knit. Although at night I have a difficult time. The Addi Lace needles have quite a glare under light and the stitches are very small. Sometimes my eyes feel like they are going to pop out. That is when I put Twinings down and work on somehting else. I am in no hurry to complete this.

On a recent trip to the attic I found a bag with 4 afghans in it. All are in an unfinished state. I chose this one to finish first, it needed the least amount of work. This was supposed to be a shower gift for a co-worker. I say supposed because obviously I never gave it as a gift. I had purchased 3 skeins of Red Heart Super Saver in Brick Red. The lable always states -NO DYE LOT - well LIAR! That is not the sunshine in the middle. I think I will use this in the spring and fall evenings while sitting by the camp fire.

A Trip, The Flu, A Snow Storm

These socks are a fun knit. The pattern is easy and gives a person something to think about while knitting this colorful yarn. The result is a tightly knit, really warm sock. On Friday, February 15th my husband and I took a short trip to Maine to visit my Mother. Saturday morning we went for a ski. The weather and the trails were perfect. My husband on the other hand decided to get the flu. He spent the rest of the weekend in bed while I visited with relatives and knit on my "That Little Scarf".

Drove back to NJ on Monday. Tuesday morning brought me a dose of the flu. All four of the occupants of this house are in bed with the flu. Yuck! And of course we had to get 8" of snow to shovel. Fevers and shoveling = not fun.
I started "That Little Scarf" on December 22, 2007 and finished on February 20, 2008. I had read on Ravelry that folks were finishing this scarf in days, it took me months. It is very important to pay attention to the pattern, for me anyway.

Compulsive Cable Hat

This hat is beautiful despite the hateful yarn I used to knit with. The yarn had many plies and split often. I did alot of fixing. This will be a warm hat to wear during a blizzard, if we ever have one.

This is one thick and warm hat. The pattern suggest a heavy worsted yarn with size 10.5 needles. The yarn I used is a bulky weight, I used smaller needles to obtain tension. The yarn was easy to work with. No splitting. The pattern, actually 2 different panels, did require me to pay attention, although not a hard pattern

This hat was a fun easy knit. The rib pattern on the cuff is a 4 row pattern that is easily remembered. The yarn is 80% wool and 20% alpaca and feels very warm and is a joy to work with. The cuff provides extra warmth for the ears.

The 2007 UFO is Now a 2008 FINISHED OBJECT

This beautiful sweater was a difficult knit. The yarn (Peace

Fleece - Siberian Midnight) is dark blue/black with flecks of grey and white. I tortured myself by knitting this on size 8 Brittany Black Walnut needles. I started the knitting on March 19, 2007, I finished today. There are many modifications to the pattern. This is a pattern of the late '80's early 90's; to be worn with leggings I think. I shortened the length, and knit a couple of sizes smaller. Sewing the seams was very difficult. Not only are the colors dark, the little specks............................. insert swear word here. I think I pulled most of them out while seaming. I do not have buttons yet. I bought the pattern over 15 years ago who knows when I will buy buttons, lol. That being said. I love the sweater. The yarn is soft and warm. It fits perfectly. The pockets will come in handy. I had purchased 12 skeins of yarn. I have 4 and 1/2 left.I have been invited to a "Meet the Artist" show. The show is in February with a Valentines Day theme. I am going to present a "Study in Reds".

2007 - UFO or The Return of the Peace Fleece Aran Sweater

This is the Left Front of the Peace Fleece Sweater. I stopped working on this sweater so I could complete my Christmas knitting. I have only the Right Front to complete and then sew up seams, knit button and button hole bands, pocket edgings, and neck band.

My husband thought he would like to see the Peace Fleece Aran finished also. He bought me this Wooly Board for Christmas in hopes it would inspire me. The sweater on the Wooly Board was knit 26 years ago as I waited for the birth on my first born.

More "Shortie" socks. All of the shortie socks I have been knitting are made with leftover yarn from Christmas presents.

This is the beginning of "That Little Scarf". I used the "Walking on the Wild Tide" yarn that came in the RSC April kit. This yarn is not showing the pattern very well. The pattern is a 12 row lace pattern that involves purl 3 tbl. Pattern can not be seen very well with the intense variation of color in this yarn. Will be ripped out and the "Grasshopper" yarn will return to the stash box, maybe later.

I used leftover Kramer, Summit Hill for these "Mini Waffle Socks". The link for these seems to have been taken off the internet. It was a very easy 2 row pattern.

Merry Christmas To All

Needles: Size 8 dp's and circular

The yarn used was not to gauge. I cast on 96 stitches and knit to the length of the medium size hat. I had to adjust the decreases to accommodate the additional stitches. I did not use the whole skein of yarn and have quite a few yards left over. I did not have a yarn that would be appropriate for the contrasting color and crocheted around with the same black. This is a very soft and warm hat. I can wear it to shovel with a wool hat over top.

Nice pattern. I will be making this hat again.

Sorry that the picutre does not show the hat very well. After many attemps my daughter and I gave up. Black is not easy to photograph.

Opera Scarf

This i.s the "Opera Scarf". Knit with 42 stitches using Plymouth Encore yarn and size 9 circular needles. This measured 15.5" before blocking. I have ripped this out and am now knitting with 28 stitches.

EDIT: I just read through the Opera Scarf link and they have updated the patten since I printed it (I last knit this scarf in 2006). There is one extra stitch and is added to row 1 as the 1st stitch, knit 1.

Needle: Size 1 Crystal Palace Bamboo There were many changes made to these socks. The changes started with the heel. I knit a regular heel flap from Ann Budd directions. 18-18-33 for the foot, decreasing down to 16-16-32 before beginning the toe. The toe is a standard toe from

Ann Budd. Both the toe and heel taken from "The Knitters Handy Book of Patterns". The result is a thick warm sock. Bad lighting = bad photos.

First Snow of 2007

Sunday and today were our 1st snows. Not much stuck to the ground, maybe 2".

Yesterday I traveled to NYC with my husband, his sister, and her son.

These are the socks I am currently working on. They are going to require many modifications starting with the heel, but I do like the stitch, Mad Color Weave. The yarn is Blue Moon Fiber Arts, Socks That Rock, medium weight, in the Hollyday colorway.

Today Is A Good Day

First my ex-boss called to ask questions, but I do not work there any more? By the way where is my paycheck?Then the mail came. I saw the mail person put letters and a white bag in my box.

Blue Moon Fiber Arts; from the Raven Series, two heavy weight Ravens, Haidi and Ravenscroft. Hollyday in medium weight. All beautiful. The letters that came announced my unemployment benefits. 26 weeks. Another benefit is college. I think I will go again.

These socks are made special for my Mother In Law. She has difficult feet and just recently broke her leg. The ribbing on the leg will stretch to fit her swolleness. I brought the ribbing down the heel for a better fit under the walking cast, no bunching is allowed. Stockinette foot for the same reason. The yarn is Plymouth Suri Merino, an alpaca/merino blend. I used a size 4 dp for the leg and heel and a size 3 dp for the foot. Leg and foot are both 40 stitches.

F.O.'s Take A Trip To Merrill Creek

I am back on regular coffee. Work had become so stressful I had to quit dring the high test, but November 7, 2007 was my last day. Things are back to normal now. The bonus being I have more time to knit. I have signed up for unemployment insurance and am waiting to see if I qualify.

My daughter and I took advantage of a beautiful day yesterday and went over to the reservoir for a walk. We walked the Perimeter Trail and according to Google Earth we walked 5.5 miles.

First up is the "Villandry Lace Scarf" by Angela Roberge
The yarn used was Blue Sky Cotton, color 613 Ink. I cast on 21 stitches, size 6.0 mm needles.
This is a fun 4 row pattern. The cotton is heavy and scarf too skinny. I am going to take it apart, cast on more stitches, and try again.

What A Long 2 Weeks

Work has actually sucked the life out of me. This weekend was our premier event. Long months of planning but the last 2 weeks are always the worse. The event is a festival; 3 stages of music, craft vendors, non-profit vendors, Guiness Book Of World Records Ribbon Cutting, banks, food, businesses, and only 6ish volunteers. Stages and vendors spaces need to be set up and broken down, food needs to be donated for performers and folks that would like to pay to be in the VIP tent. The weather was perfect. in the 80's and NO rain, this is an out door event. My legs feel as though they climbed Mt Washington.

And beside all of this it is MLB playoff time. October is my favorite. The weather is pleasant, great baseball, my team is in "GO RED SOX", and it is time for camping.

I have been knitting. Mindless knitting, knitting mittens and hats. Keeps the skill up and some little ones somewhere will be warm. No pictures. Soon. The mornings are foggy and by the time I come home at night it has been dark.

Time Again for the Common Ground Fair

Progress
No picture due to the heavy rain and dark conditions. I have 77 rows done on the sleeve. I have about 8 cm's before the decrease starts. This is taking so long because the pattern provides no chart only written directions. These written directions are per panel and each panel has a different amount of pattern rows. I have written them all down for the back and the sleeve so far. Sleeve #2 should fly. I hope.

Progress

Not much to show on the sweater. Only 8 rows added to sleeve since last picture. The yarn is very dark and is quite difficult to work with inside. I do try to get outside to knit every day but I work every day and then come home and cook supper, go to the gym and then well it is not light out side. I will probably have to take some time off in order to finish by the end of August.

On the other hand or should I say foot the "Vog On" Bluebird of Friendliness is finished.

When I picked up my sweater from its resting spot I saw the "Vog On", "Bluebird of Friendliness". Should be able to click on the Vogs for larger picture. I will need to study the sweater for awhile to see where I left off in the pattern and honestly it may take a day just to figure that out. Also, with the dark colors I need some natural sunlight to help. This weekend should be very sunny but ..............

There has been progress on the Christmas gift. Done. I think everyone on THE LIST is getting worsted weight, plain ole boot socks. Of course I had to order more yarn from Webs and will still need more to acomplish this.

Summer Solstice and The Official Start of Christmas Knitting

The sky is threatening to day so the photo's were taken with a flash, indoors.

Summer Solstice is finished.

Modifications to pattern include a flap heel and the "toe I know". I did not read the STR pattern after I changed the heel. The foot is 64 stitches with the pattern continued down to the toe.

Man socks take a long time to knit. At least these did. Knit for a size 9 manfoot. Used almost the entire skein. I started these in June.

Short Vacation to Maine or One Sock + One Sock is Not A Pair

My husband and I left New Jersey Saturday morning. We spent Saturday night in Townshend, Vermont at a State Park Campground. Notice crazy person jumping off bridge. Park Ranger entertaining campers with Angela the Camper.

Monday was a misty day. Husband and I drove to Cape Porpoise for lunch at the Chowder House. Lobster Stew and Crab Rolls. Finished one Trekking sock for husband.

On the way back to Sanford we stopped in Kennebunk to buy a new set of locks for my Mothers' house. She had been broken into last Weekend while at Church, which is the real reason for hte trip to Maine. Anyway next to the hardware store is The Custom Shop, a yarn store. They are moving and were in the process of having a Moving Sale. My husband went to the hardware store and of course I went to the yarn store.

Ribble Stitch Scarf & WIP

This passed winter (finished in December) I made a pair of fingerless gloves with this stitch pattern. I found the stitch pattern in the book "Socks Socks Socks". I made quite a few pair of the socks and really like the effect. The Ribble is a reversible cable, same on both sides. Perfect for a scarf. I used 2 skeins of Berroco Ultra Alpaca, chocolate, that I purchased at The Yarn Sellar in York, Maine. I used size 5 needles and 39 stitches. I found this scarf in my WIP bag and decided to finish it. The scarf is 78" long with 2 inches of fringe on each end. I have not blocked the scarf yet so not sure of the width. I think I have been bit by a bug that causes extreme sleepiness. My eyes are burning and just want to close. When I sit to knit I immediately fall asleep. This is dangerous with pointy sticks. I have started 3 pair of socks and have not made much progress on any pair. I just like starting them.

The blue socks are to be peds, Tofutsie leftover from Tidal Wave socks. The brown is Trekking ProNatura, color 1603, socks for husband. The reddish is the RSC June kit "Solstice Slip"; this is a very fun stitch pattern but of course I have made changes to the pattern. I like socks that fit my feet and tend to make changes to patterns to suit MY foot.

July 6,, 2007 ...... A First Friday

Farmers Market - every Friday 3-7 pm.

Frist Friday of the month means music. The coffee shop, a couple of bars, and the Pottery Zone have music. Not much into bars, I knit, and I love chocolate cake and big cups of coffee, so I headed over to "Cocoon" the local coffee shop and caught "The Bridges". They play counrty/bluegrass.

Stash Socks and New Stash

I have been working on these on and off since I finished Canada Socks. The yarn is Regia Silk. I really liked this yarn and thought I would have enough. I think I have a couple yards of each color left over. I used size 0 needles and 68 stitches. These socks will be great in the fall with my Teva's.

Stash acquired last week .............. left to right "White Birch Fiber Arts", I picked this up in Brattleboro, VT last week on the way home. No color listed; just says one of a kind. "Socks That Rock" Firebird, sock club yarn. "Brooklyn Handspun" Lombard Melon" ordered from her website. 2 skeins of Manos, color 46, the color is really like a green coloring crayon. The last skein is 100% Superfine Alpaca; natural color, Mist Grey 2/02. The Manos and Superfine Alpaca I purchased at Northern Nights in Norwich, VT.

One Skein Claudia Socks

I made these socks with one skein of Claudia Hand Painted fingering yarn. A few posts back you will see I received this yarn from my OSSP. This yarn was dyed especially for her LYS, Knitting Sisters. I seem to have misplaced the business card for the shop but I believe it is in Williamsburg, VA. Not sure of what to do with one skein I went to work making the smallest socks I ever made. These socks will fit in my purse and will be handy for the summer; bitting bugs - - cooler evenings by the ocean, etc.

The Bike Ride
Today is a beautiful day. "Vog On" and I are going for a bike ride.

Crossing the Connecticut River from New Hampshire into Vermont.

Rode up to Norwich, VT. Nice ride, not too hilly. Found this great yarn store - Northern Nights. I did not catch the name of the lady working there but she was the nicest lady. I got a grand tour of the shop. I purchased some Alpaca and Manos. The nice lady brought me over to a coffee shop/bakery/deli. I got coffee and a sandwich and headed over to the park. "Vog On" and I had lunch. There was a wonderful breeze and "Vog On" held down the paper while I ate my goat cheese, tomato, and olive spread on bagette sandwich. I sat on that bench for 2 hours and finished "Vog On". I did not bring a needle to kirchner the toe.

We went through Hanover and over to the CRREL building where my husband's class was. The sky looked very threatening and I headed back to a cafe I saw.

"Vog On" did not want to come out for photo's; there were varments around.

Husband picked us up and we had some refreshments in Hanover at Murphy's. "Vog On" was still up for more. After supper we went down to Covered Bridge 23.

These are the dogs that tried to eat us. "Vog On" has been sewed and will have more advertures tomorrow - - - on my feet!

Traveling Without Camera Cord

I finished the Victorian Lace socks on Saturday night at my Nephew's championship Little League game.

When I got home I immediately cast on for Knitty's new offering "Vog on". These socks are traveling with me.

Sunday we drove to Vermont, we camped just outside of Rutland in a State Park. Apparently
"Vog on: does not enjoy camping and would not get out of the car. Monday we continued across Route 4 to Quechee Gorge. "Vog on" did pose for a few photos here.

Next stop was Woodstock, Vt. "Vog on" did not get out of the car here; thought it tacky to go to a yarn shop. Whippletree was a fun stop. If you find yourself in Woodstock do visit the shop. There is major construction on a bridge leading into town and business is down.

Next stop - - White River Junction, Vt. "Vog on" had a wonderful time at the train station.

We have arrived at the hotel. Tuesday was way to hot to go out. Wednesday it rained most of the day. I am almost done the pair. Just the foot of sock 2 to go.

Received phone call from daughter; STR June sock club arrived (I have not even begun the April kit yet) and my Brooklyn Handspun also arrived.

One Skein Secret Pal

I participated in the OSSP in 2006. June and July we were to send a skein of yarn to our downstream pal and our upstream pal would send us a skein. Then in August we would knit for our pal. My upstream pal sent me the most lucious yarn that I of course knit sock with. One skein was Opal, dk the other was Lana Grossa, Inca. My upstream pal was very busy with summer, a job, a child, basically a life. She kept in touch for awhile, even sent Christmas Greetings. How surprised was I when I cam home from work Wednesday and heard "What did you order now?". I had not ordered anything. It was my knit item from my secret pal:

The hat is wonderful made from South West Trading - Karaoke color 298. The hat is lying on the backside of a t-shirt my pal also incluced in the package.

Snowflakes in June

I finished my Socknitters - SAM snowflake socks this morning. Took some pictures and here they are:

Here are the specifics:

Yarn: Lanas Puras, Melosa - color, orchid. Needle: Lantern Moon ebony size 2. Pattern: Socknitters-SAM, Snowflake Socks.

I LOVE these socks. The yarn is the softest yarn I have knit with to date. These are going to be a very special pair of socks. The pattern is well written and easy to follow. I followed the written directions. It was mentioned in the KAL that there is a mistake in the chart. Followed the directions exactly except for alternation the knit 1 slip one on the heel. The feel perfect and feel oh so soft. 100% merino 440 yards to the skein. I have lots left.

Canada Socks Excellent Adventure

My husband and I went to Maine last week.

I chose Canada Sock as the project that would come along with us. I am knitting the Canada Socks with the KOTR - KAL. I had started the socks on May 10, 2007 but on May 16, 2007 I ripped them back to the first chart and began again. The sock was too thick and contained too may repeats. I only did one repeat of the pattern. These socks are taller than I would usually wear but will be very warm come fall and winter.

Specifics:

Yarn: Regia Silk, color 070-Moss and color 032-burgandy and a small amount of rust colored wool. Yarn was purchased at the Custom Shop in Kennebunk, Maine.

Needles: Clover bamboo size 0, size 1 for colorwork

Changes: Only one pattern repeat, heel, toe.

Canada Sock arrive in Maine on Tuesday, May 21, 2007. One sock was finished and the second sock had all color patterns finished. At first the sock was happy to be knit in the house of my mother, Memere. I think the fact that she is French-Canadian helped the sock along.

Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday evenings were spent knitting on Canada Sock and watching the Red Sox games, Thursday was a repeat of a Red Sox-Yankee game.

On Friday Canada Sock decides it wants to go out. Off to Portland we went. We found parking and the first stop was Seaport Yarn. Then to Becky's for lunch. We rode our bikes over to South Portland to see the famous Bug Light and Spring Point Light.

We went to the Old Port for a snack and to be a tourist. But wait what is this fisherman doing.

That looks just like my sock.
